CloseSweet large leaf thai basil seeds. ocimum basilicum. Non-gmo, heirloom, open pollinated, annual. 70-80 days to maturity. Sweet and has tender leaves that tastes somewhat like anise with a strong pungent aroma. The plants are about tall and grown as perennial in warm tropical climates. Best in hot dry conditions.
Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring/summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Or start seeds inside 6 weeks before last frost date (or 8 weeks before expected transplanting date). Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. Plants grow well in warm temperatures but can show cold damage if grown below 50 degree F. Harvest older leaves and pinch back flower buds for continuous leaf production. Delicious in fish, poultry, pasta and rice dishes. Use in authentic Vietnamese, Cambodian or Thai dishes, such as pho, the famous noodle soup of Vietnam.
