CloseA classic early cabbage from 1928. Even with new hybrids taking over the cabbage market, Golden Acre holds its own because of its reliable early crops of high-quality spring-to-summer cabbages. Petite, manageable size both in the kitchen and in the garden plot. Grey-green heads, some with a faint reddish tint in the outer leaves, average 3–5 lb. Short stems with sparse wrapper leaves and medium-sized core keep plants compact. Not long standing--plant a later cabbage for winter use. These summer cabbages are much used in hot climates as an alternative to lettuce when the heat turns lettuce bitter. (Think Baja-style tacos!) 60 days.
Seed companies in the UK often list "Golden Acre Primo" as a variety, leading me to believe that either Primo is a selection of Golden Acre (or vice-versa) or they are synonyms.
