How It Works

Our sphagnum peat moss is composed of partially decomposed sphagnum moss plants that have accumulated over centuries in cool, wet bog environments. The plant cell walls are made up of unique polysaccharides that can absorb and retain large amounts of water—up to 20 times their weight—while still allowing air exchange for root respiration. Its fibrous structure increases soil porosity, which promotes root development and nutrient uptake in a variety of crops, including mushrooms and tree farms. The naturally low pH (typically 3.5–4.5) helps acidify alkaline soils and makes it ideal for acid-loving plants such as blueberries, azaleas, and rhododendrons.
