Close150 Days to maturity. Allium cepa. Early Imai Yellow Onion Seeds. Non-GMO, annual, open-pollinated, heirloom, heat tolerant, cold tolerant, drought tolerant, bulbing, intermediate-day yellow onion. Suitable for growing in greenhouses, garden plots, and raised beds. This selection of Senshu Yellow matures 10-15 days earlier. An intermediate-day-length over-wintering variety that does best in Zones 5 and 6. Maturing to over 1/2 a pound, the large, yellow-skinned, thick, flat globe bulbs are crisp and mild. ~ 7,500 seeds/oz.
Bulb begins to flatten at 13 hour day length. Intermediate-day varieties work best in Zones 5 & 6. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in early fall and transplant seedlings in January. Keep soil moist and well weeded. Fertilize as needed. Harvest when skins develop and tops have fallen over. Allow the onions to dry in the open air for at least a week. Cut off tops and roots. Air dry 2-3 more days. This will help to seal the onion and avoid spoiling. Onions can be harvested at any stage before full maturity. Use fresh or cooked. Suitable for salad, pickling, stir-fry, sukiyaki, and tempura.
