Close60-80 days. Shishito Sweet Pepper Seeds. Capsicum annuum. Heirloom. Non-GMO. Shishito sweet pepper seeds are an East Asian pepper variety known for its slender and wrinkled appearance. A very mild pepper when compared to jalapeno, its smoky flavor is enhanced when grilled or roasted. Almost always harvested when still green, most shishito peppers will be mild and sweet but occasionally, a few individual peppers will be warmer than the rest. 100-1,000 SHU.
it's recommended to start the seeds indoors in early spring, sowing them 1/4" deep and keeping them moist until germination.
Pepper seeds can be started indoors in warm well-drained soil, transferred to the outdoors, and planted half an inch deep and three feet apart, allowing the soil to dry out before watering. Seeds typically germinate within 10 to 25 days. Once the seeds have sprouted, they can be moved into either larger pots or directly into the rich soil of a vegetable garden (with at least 24" of spacing between the individual plants).
Cages may be used for support since they grow about 4 feet high. Avoid even a light frost, which retards growth and impairs the brilliant color of leaves.
Sometimes also known as groundcherry peppers in Korea, shishito sweet pepper plants grown from these seeds are a great addition to any garden, particularly if you live in a climate well-suited for growing peppers.
In addition to producing good yields of delicious peppers this variety can also be slightly ornamental thanks to the unique wrinkled appearance of the peppers themselves.
Rated between 50 and 200 on the Scoville scale, these peppers are very mild. Their unique smoky flavor is greatly enhanced by roasting or grilling, allowing them to be incorporated into many different recipes.
When fully mature, these peppers will be anywhere from 2 - 4" in length and with a wrinkled appearance.
Typically harvested when green, they can also can be left until fully mature as well (at which point they will turn red). As with most types of peppers, it's often best to snip the fruit from the plant with shears (leaving a small amount of stem behind on the plant).
