CloseThis variety is prized for its sweet flavor and excellent texture, making it a popular choice among gardeners and chefs.
A standard for decades, this plant grows to seven to eight feet tall and bears eight-inch, slightly tapered ears with fourteen to sixteen rows of kernels in tight husks filled to the tip. And the best part is that it tolerates Stewart's Wilt and Northern Corn Leaf Blight!
Sku: 7697
Common Name: Sweet Corn
Botanical Name: Zea mays subsp. mays
Sow seed directly in the garden after all danger of frost is past and soil is warm. Plant 1 seed every 4 inches. Thin to 1 plant every 12 inches when plants are 4 inches tall. Control weeds with mulch and keep plants well watered, especially when tops begin to tassel.
Planting Depth: 1 - 1.5"
Seed Spacing: Sow Hybrid Silver Queen Sweet Corn seeds roughly 12" apart, keeping rows approximately 3' apart.
Nutrient Care Instructions: Apply SUPERthrive once per week. Soak in solution of 1/4 tsp per gal for 15 min. or longer depending on size and type.
For better ear fill, plant a number of short rows together instead of a single long row. This helps ensure pollination. For plenty of corn all season, plant early and late varieties.
