On most "Top 5" lists for flavor, this unusual tomato is an heirloom from the Cherokee nation. Wonderful sweet/tart balance. Handles high summer heat really well. The color varies between the maroon-and-green of the usual "black" tomato to a crimson purple tone. When you taste one you won't care what color it is--the flavor is what this tomato is all about. The plants are indeterminate but compact. They continue to make fruit until frost, but they don't make a big sprawling vine. Some concentric cracking is normal, and can be controlled by using mulch and keeping the moisture level fairly even.
